This seminar will survey the scientific study of consciousness, integrating methods and findings from experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience and clinical psychology. Questions will include: How is conscious experience related to patterns of neural activity in the brain? What are the functions of consciousness? To what extent is information processed in the absence of awarenessi.e., is there such a thing as unconscious perception or unconscious thought? Prerequisite: PSYC 160 PO or permission of instructor.
