Description
Introduction to the use of large collections of computer-readable text ("corpora") in linguistics and cognitive science as an increasingly important source of empirical information for both theoretical and applied study. Focus on computational text processing techniques and quantitative data analysis. Other topics include philosophical foundations; lexical resources; the WWW as corpus; and applications to stylistics, language teaching and sociolinguistics. No prior programming or statistics background required. Letter grade only. Prerequisite: LGCS010 PO.
